I love destructed jeans. There. I said it. To say that I’m glad they’re back is an understatement. Maybe it’s my coming of age during the era of Hair Bands. Who knows? I’ll readily admit that this look isn’t for everyone, and it’s especially not your stereotypical maternity look. And that’s why I love it. It’s me–pregnant or not.
With my first pregnancy, I really thought I was going to hit a point where I could only wear banded pants and billowy shirts. It never happened like that. Despite what the maternity clothing industry (and maybe some of our moms) tell us/have told us, you can really get by with quite a bit of non-maternity when you’re “with child.” The jeans I’m wearing are American Eagle sized two sizes up from my normal size. The top is a stretchy little Michael Lauren number from my favorite local boutique. Oh, and I have on my Skinnytees tank that I just can’t live without these days. Not a single maternity piece on me, yet everything is covered. It can take a bit of work to figure out brands and styles that work with your figure rather than against it, but once you do, you may not ever go the maternity clothing route…at least not 100%.
You can’t do rocker-chic without some killer accessories. Two of my favorite recent purchases, the Steve Madden Mansfeld booties and the Stella and Dot Renegade bracelet, seemed like the perfect match for the destroyed denim.
