Outfit of the Day: Global Bohemian Maternity Style

irving and fine jacket 008

Take a good look, friends. What you are seeing here is true love. I fall for things on a daily basis (shoes, bags, clothes), but I rarely find myself head over heels smitten by anything. This Irving & Fine for Lucky Brand jacket was my downfall. I first saw it in People StyleWatch last month. When it finally launched on their site, it sold out in a matter of 24 hours. I finally tracked it down at Lucky (Austin’s Barton Creek Mall) and picked it up Tuesday. It’s all beaded and sequined and embroidered (sigh). I know it’s kind of trendy this season with all the attention to global looks, but I have a feeling it’ll stay in my closet for years. It just makes me happy. How I gravitate toward both rocker-esque and bohemian aesthetics at the same time will never make sense to me but I guess that’s what personal style is all about. Again, not really maternity style but it works for everyone as you can tell by my growing bump.  Continue reading

Heavy Metal Mama (to Be)

destroyed denim maternity 007

I love destructed jeans. There. I said it. To say that I’m glad they’re back is an understatement. Maybe it’s my coming of age during the era of Hair Bands. Who knows? I’ll readily admit that this look isn’t for everyone, and it’s especially not your stereotypical maternity look. And that’s why I love it. It’s me–pregnant or not.  Continue reading

Outfit of the Day: Navy, Grey and Tangerine Tango (so 2012)

navy blazer 008

I’ve never been a blazer person. I do love the look, especially on those who can throw one on top of jeans and a t-shirt and look edgy-cool. Somehow they just feel strange to me–like I’m confusing corporate and casual. I did, however, go ahead and order the navy version of the Pim + Larkin sweater blazer from Piperlime (shown here). It’s dangerously preppy but I guess some days I feel dangerously on the verge of going preppy. Today was one of those (and it was a weird in-between temperature), so I was really happy to have the blazer.  Continue reading

Black, White & Leopard

I have to give major props to bloggers who achieve gallery-worthy photos. As I look through the photos I add to this blog, I realize that (a) I’m no photographer and (b) it’s hard to do it with nothing but a tripod, an active 4-year-old and a drab Texas winter backdrop. Given that this is a just-for-fun blog, though, I guess I shouldn’t beat myself up too much as I learn.  Continue reading

Black, White, Blue…and a curling iron mishap

Let’s just get the hair out of the way before we begin, shall we? I think my stylist is very talented when it comes to cuts but styling? Not so much this time. This was supposed to be loose, beachy waves. In hindsight, I should’ve known to stop her when she pulled out the 1-inch curling iron but, well, I kept my mouth shut. I know, I know. The 90s called and they want my hair back.  Continue reading

Camo and Black — Maternity Edition

One of the few things that excited me about moving to Texas was the prospect of being near a Zara boutique. I love their edgy trendiness (and the prices). One of my first purchases was their ubiquitous camouflage skinnies. (Is there a blogger that doesn’t have them?) As it turns out, I was pregnant the day that I bought them. Form-fitting to begin with, these were the first pants that necessitated the Bellaband the moment I gained a few pounds. Still, I think they work. The camo trend doesn’t appear to have legs in terms of lasting appeal, so they served their purpose. Oh, and this photo was taken at 15 weeks pregnant.  Continue reading
